Canada, we are who we are regardless of what others think of us.
Ok, who are we kidding? We love to hear what others think of us. We have a reputation for being the ‘nice’ guys, and we all know what happens to the nice guys, they get forgotten about (and it’s not aboot!)
Well, after years of being placed on the back burner of popular culture, Canadiana has finally come into its own.
We all remember Canada’s grainy attempts at self production over the last 40 years or so, and anyone who has a problem with the Littlest Hobo can answer to me! (I love that dog!) But now it seems we have finally caught up with the rest of television and our stories aren’t just about Joey Jeremiah’s band anymore.
With shows like the Trailer Park Boys and Kenny vs Spenny blazing a brand new trail for Canadian adult sitcoms, we’re finally getting the respect we deserve!
Brent Butt, creator of Corner Gas, has opened the door for family sitcoms based in Canada, (ie) Little Mosque On The Prairie), and has developed characters that can be loved for their small town ways and respected for the subtle, sarcastic, truly Canadian way they poke fun at other cultures the world over. He has done the impossible and generated a steadily growing fan base not only inside our boarder but even in the US and Europe.
But wait, lets not forget what the show SCTV did for us back in the 70’s and 80’s! Many of the best comedians of our time got their start on that show, and lets admit it, where would we be with out Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis’s portrayal of average Canadians: Bob and Doug McKenzie, without whom we would not be who we are today. When anyone the world over thinks of Canada, the image of toque wearing, beer drinking, hosers comes to mind, and we as a culture are proud of that!
We are who we are and we take great pride in it, so join me in taking pride in The Great White North Eh!

With Halloween just one more day away it’s time to head to your local movie rental store to pick up some frightful flicks to enjoy while the ghosts and goblins and witches roam the streets in search for sweet treats.
To save you all from having to research your own Halloween horror I have researched and found a list of the top ten best horror movies. It is interesting to note that most of the best ones were made decades ago, before all of the movie technology that film makers have access to today. In addition to this many of the movies have been re-done in recent years but it is the originals that top the lists.
During my internet search I discovered that there were entire websites dedicated to this gruesome and frightening genre of film. One sight by Don Sumner brilliantly named Best-Horror-Movies.Com provides the list of the top 100 best horror movies. I have cut this down to just the top 10 but if the movie store is sold out of these ones you can always check out his sight for the complete list!
10. Friday the 13th (1980, directed by Sean S. Cunningham)
9. Dead Alive (1992. Directed by Peter Jackson)
8. Psycho (1960, Directed by Alfred Hitchcock)
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984, Directed by Wes Craven)
6. The Shining (1980, Directed by Stanley Kubrick)
5. Night of the Living Dead(1968, Directed by Dean Lachiusa & George Romero)
4. Halloween (1978, directed by John Carpenter)
3. Dawn of the Dead (1978, Directed by George A. Romero)
2. Alien(1979, Directed by Ridley Scott)
1. The Exorcist (1973, Directed by William Friedkin)For more information and reviews on these movies and others, you can also check out the Internet Movie Database it has tons of information on any movie you can think of!
The number one movie on my list would be Psycho, I’ve only ever seen it once when I was quite young and had a strange fascination with horrifying movies but I will never forget the creepy music and that famous shower scene. With a man like Alfred Hitchcock behind the scenes it was sure to be memorable. This black and white fright starred Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh and was nominated for 5 Oscars in 1961. Now 47 years later though the leading actors are no longer alive the impact of the movie most certainly is!
This Halloween if you would rather watch some gruesome scenes at the theatre Saw V was released on October 24th and according to The Internet Movie Database it currently has 6 out of 10 stars and you can check out all of the reviews there before going to the theatre.
So whether you are handing out candy to miniature Hannah Montana’s, pretty princesses or those who truly get into the scary spirit of the holiday with fake blood and a rubber mask, just remember to take some time to honour the movies that sent us to bed with the promise of nightmares!

Lauren Conrad appeared on David Letterman on Monday night and proceeded to get ribbed by the host! David Letterman asked the reality star about her feud with ex-BFF Heidi Montag, and proceeded by telling her:
“That raises the question…maybe your the problem, you think?”
Lauren managed to laugh it off and even had the opportunity to stick to Spencer! Letterman continued his antics by calling Spencer Pratt a “weasel” and then asked, “…what’s his deal?” Letterman went on to say that when Spencer was on his show, “he had some big giant watch on…” and Lauren shot in:
“He was probably checking his 15 minutes!”

Just a couple of weeks ago, it was reported that the reality television, catfighting duo, Conrad and Heidi Montage had a reunion. Apparently, Conrad was at STK in Los Angeles celebrating her runway show with family and friends, when Montag asked if she could congratulate Conrad on her runway show. The two were then seen having an conversation and then hugging.
So maybe they will be friends again….But do we really care that much?
Earlier through this weekend it was channeled all over the media, as a tragedy happened amongst the family of the actress Jennifer Hudson, whose mother was found dead shot to death. The condo in Chicago, purchased by Jennifer for her mother was attacked early in the morning, where neighbors prove hearing gun shots shortly after calling the police.
The only source of evidence the Chicago PD are running on ( according to E! news) is the fact that there were family domestic disputes which may have caused the brother of Jennifer to be a target for further confrontation. Although a fair amount of information was gathered, there is still little evidence to point the police in any other direction.

For those of you blissfully ignoring the Wonderful World of Disney and its band of “really, we can play 16″ 20-something actors, High School Musical 3 premieres in theatres across the country today. Previous High School Musicals have only graced the small-screen, so it’s understandable if you’ve never seen Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens (the ’it’ couple both on and off screen) declaring their love for eachother through G-rated songs. But now, with bigger hype than most other Disney live-action flicks could even dream about, High School Musical 3: Senior Year hits theatres and promises to finally turn the Disney Channel stars into real movie actors.
Though you might not be able to say you remember Efron and Hudgens from any of their acting gigs (which, for Efron at least, do include some mainstream movies), you’ll probably remember them from Hudgen’s nude-photo scandal, her Neutrogena ads, or by the very fact that their squeaky-clean-couple image is plastered over entertainment sites everywhere.
Though you might be put off by the ‘G’ rating, High School Musical 3 promises everything that an average teen-flick does: a disgustingly cute couple, someone trying to break up that disgustingly cute couple, and a backup band of friends in case you get bored watching the disgustingly cute couple. Just ignore the fact that they share their emotions through songs.

Wait! Whats that?!? Up on the screen! Its every Super Hero you’ve ever seen!
Super Heros have exploded back into our attention, and they’re doing it in style.
From the comic book page to the big screen, modern Hero tales are being delivered with the special effects and street cred to back them up. Thanks to Sam Raimi’s brilliant big screen interpretation of Spider man, Super Hero movies are now on the fast track to becoming the biggest box office draws in Hollywood.
Nearly all of the most popular Heroes from our childhood have been presented or are soon to be released. Rumors of upcoming crossover/group films are also highly anticipated.
Arguably, the 1980’s and 90’s had their share of block buster hits like the Batman franchise (at least pertaining to the first two films!) but the new milenium has brought with it the realization that it isn’t all about campy throwbacks, somtimes it needs re-invention and reinterpretation (and the ease of modern computer generated special effects doen’t hurt either). Though some have had false starts, as in the case of Ang Lee’s Hulk, which needs no more mention, for the most part stories have held true and plots have captured new fans.
Theaters haven’t been the only arena which has been jump started into super-mode: televisions top show is a tip of the hat to the X-Men style genre of Super Heroes, aptly named ‘Heroes’, which garners millions of viewers every Monday night.
Specialty shows now have an avenue into mainstream prime time with the likes of ‘Ink: Alter Egos Exposed’ which delves into the psyche of Super Heroes and examines their motivations and existential meanings.
Other inroads have developed for entrepreneurs who have used other mediums to tell their Heroes tales, like Claudio Sanchez, lead singer of the band ‘Coheed and Cambria’. Sanchez writes a quarterly comic book by the same name, which follows along with the bands concept albums, telling the tale of its two heroes Coheed and Cambria. Styles like this are so ahead of the rest that many fans of the band don’t even know of the comics existence.

Be they the classic originals or the new releases, Super Heroes will always have the power to capture our attention and the strength and stamina to remain relavent and contemporary in a changing world.

Things must be starting to look up. The prosecutor even stated “I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask or a retrial”.
This comes after Britney’s first single Womanizer, released off her upcoming album Circus, debuted at #96 has jumped to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is Britney’s first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1999’s “…Baby One More Time”.

well well well………welcome back Mr. Barker. It was released that the brave warrior was enjoying his time at home under supervision and care, where he will recover for the duration of time remaining to heal those 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
you would think there is a sense in someone to notice a certain trend in the world of airplane crashes in where one might discover that most plane crashes that usually occur are the small “private” type. and looking at the size of those, if you were to hit the ground or he ocean, the chances of that aircraft being in one shape, is pretty minimal. so, in the future words of advice to the outgoing famous, “follow the steps of all the big dogs, they get the big planes. more control, more comfortability, and a great experience.”

In an incredibly controversial interview with US Magazine, Jenny McCarthy has announced that she has cured autism.
McCarthy claims that her 6-year-old son, Evan, ‘contracted’ autism after being vaccinated for measles, mumps, and rubella. After being placed on a strict wheat and dairy-free diet, Evan has emerged from his shell, and McCarthy says he is now a loving and attentive child. McCarthy also claims that Evan’s miracle recovery can be linked to divine workings.
“I heard Evan laugh – I jumped on the bed and started screaming. When he finally hugged me, I prayed, ‘Please God don’t let this be the only time.’ I made a deal with God. I said, ‘You fix my boy, you show me the way and I’ll teach the world how I did it.’ “
McCarthy recently appeared on Oprah, spreading her ‘miracle cure’ and promoting the new book she wrote about how she saved her child. She also approached U.S. presidential candidate John McCain to help spread the word on the supposed link between childhood vaccinations and autism, but McCain’s representatives turned her down. This may be the first smart move in McCain’s presidential run.
